It was the summer of 2012, and 20 year-old Mathew McGowan had his sights set on what most college students do after they graduate. Something that can be so scary and yet so awesome at the same time.

Finding a job.

Talk about stress.

McGowan, an aspiring sports writer, got his first interview with a local sports radio station called WNST.

McGowan was no stranger to sports radio as you could bet any amount of money that was playing while he was driving anywhere.

"I just wanted to be involved with something I loved, sports." McGowan said.

To know surprise McGowan was assigned to the very early morning shift, 6-10 a.m. This meant that McGowan had to get up around 4:45 in order to make the long drive and make it on time.

"I've never woke up so early and so excited. It was very new to me."

Being inside the station during a live broadcast really drew McGowan in and he was sold right then and there.

"My mom always told me to find something I am good at and find a way to get paid for it."

McGowan hadn't covered the whole paid part yet but these were the first necessary steps. Day after day was equally as exciting for McGowan. Setting up interviews, running the Twitter and Facebook pages and putting up stat lines were all things that McGowan had no problem with especially do to his love for sports.

"When I would set up an interview, sometimes I would talk to the interviewee and pick his/her brain about certain questions I had. That might have gotten me in trouble a couple times but it was certainly worth it." Said McGowan.

"The fact that I have to come in here and live, breathe and eat sports is nothing short of a miracle in my eyes."
